Happy New Year!

Wishing you and yours the happiest of years in 2009!

Are you kidding me...?!

Cotton Monster

Ohhhhh noooo.....
it's 100% handmade, from a local crafter.... can you think of anything more dangerous....?!!!

In August, in reaction to the atrocious lack of safety standards in the production of children's toys and clothing from large over-seas manufacturers, President Bush passed the Consumer Products Safety Improvement Act which mandates prohibitively expensive testing of all products intended for children under 12 years old.

Please be aware that if this act is not reformed, most handmade toys and clothing for children will be illegal beginning in February of next year. That's less than two months from now. Please take a moment to learn about this act and the disastrous effects it will have on the handmade and small business communities.

The Cotton Monster pictured above is one of the many fantastic creations of Baltimore artist Jennifer Strunge...to see her work, stop by her website and etsy site.

Wrap it up!

Be sure to stop by bluehouse this Friday evening!
My good friend Shannon of Sweet Pepita Clothing will be leading a fun & informative hands-on workshop on eco-friendly ways to wrap gifts using repurposed fabric & paper.

Supplies are provided but they encourage you to help out by bringing your own scissors & old t-shirts or other scrap fabric. And newspaper bags and brown grocery bags, too, if you can.

Admission is free. You can also enjoy complimentary mulled cider & receive one-night-only discounts on selected merchandise.

Shannon sews the most unique clothing...anything, from your old concert tees, your old favorite shirt with the whole in it can be reconfigured! She'll cut out the good parts and then combine them with new organic cotton fabric to create a whole new look!

This workshop will be held in The Café at bluehouse
Friday, December 12, 2008 from 7:00pm - 8:00pm
1407 Fleet St., Baltimore, MD

Happy Handmade Holidays

Check out the great write up we got in the holiday issue of Baltimore Magazine!

Yummy & Company
"Jennifer Wilfong is something of a Renaissance woman. While her background is in painting—and her abstract oil pieces are mesmerizing—she also sells jewelry, customized stationery, prints, and apparel. One unique touch? She actually sews designs directly onto her stationery to create a threaded, nostalgic look."

Needless to say I was very happy with the article and mention in the magazine! Hope you all are having a great holiday season and remembering to buy handmade!
